TOP 5 IN 5 MONTH 2!!

It's month 2 of the Top 5 in 5 months!!

This month, the top 5 book I read from the Life Business was The Magic of Thinking Big. My biggest nugget comes from chapter two: Excusitus.  I believe, with all my heart, that the quality that will seperate winners from losers is the ABILITY TO NOT BUY OUR OWN EXCUSES! Successful people do not allow circumstances to dictate results.

I'm a big believer in leveraged learning because it  always amazes me how much I learn just from hearing another person's perspective. I learned this from watching Orrin Woodward.  He is a master at this.  Even though he is the #6 leadership guru in the world, he still takes the time to let his performers share. There's always a lot to learn from others out there in the battle, and that's why I want to hear from you!  Which top 5 book did you read this month, and what nuggets are you applying in your life and your business right now?

  1. This month my three children and I are working through How to Win Friends and Influence People. The point I am putting in practice is "Be genuinely interested in people." What a priceless principle. No one wants to do business with or be friends with someone who is fake. Be REAL!!! Thanks for the encouragement to READ ON!!!

  2. Also just finished "The Magic of Thinking Big". My biggest nugget from the book was that I have to display the reaction I want. If I want someone to be excited about what I'm telling them, then I have to be excited. If I want to display confidence and poise, I have to believe I have confidence. It truly is a change in thinking.

Next up: "How I Raised Myself from Failure to Success in Selling". Can't wait to reinforce the nuggets I learned from the first couple times.

Love that we have this "challenge" to improve ourselves! Thanks!!!!!

  3. Marc, The book I read this month was Personality Plus, Wow, sometimes you forget about how someone elses type can affect the way you respond to them. I have been having a difficult time dealing with my current boss, until I read about his temperment and realized that he is not judging everything I do, it just feels that way because of his temperment. I was feeling singled out until I realized that he treats everyone that way and they feel the exact same thing I do. Now I can dismiss some of these feelings and move on. Thanks for all you do and having us read these books again. Glen

    1. POWERFUL stuff Glen! This is why I love our business system, it can be used immediately in all areas of our lives! Thanks for sharing!!!

  4. About to finish How to Win Friends and Influence people again. I love the 6 ways to make people like you:

    1. Become genuinely interested in other people
    2. Smile
    3. Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language
    4. Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
    5. Talk in terms of the other person's interests
    6. Make the other person feel important--and do it sincerely.

    Thanks for the post!

  5. Mili, I read How I Raised Myself this month....

I learned SOOOO much, but 1 thing that I can share if through an example. I read that you should go in and give the contract to the prospect with a pen, and then shut up! Man, I was thinking that was CRAZY!

Well, had a meeting with a Melancholy personality and at the end while he was waffling, I did just that. I had already laid out why he should be agreeable, when I showed him the contract and clicked the pen and gave it to him, he paused for a second, asked a quick question, and then signed it! just like that!

WOW, I love these books doesn't matter how many times I've read them, I need to more :)

    Thanks for running the promotion!

    1. BOOM! That's the way we do it . . .
Nice work Schill! Thanks for sharing!

  6. Hey Marc,

This month I read Personality Plus. I cannot define a specific part of the book per se. I can tell you what it has done in my home. It finally clicked (not my first time reading it) that some of the stuff going on at home was personality type related. I felt so free after that. I know they say the reading is the key to knowledge and that knowledge applied is power. I say that reading is the key to FREEDOM! Thank you for being a trailblazer! Let's go out there and take our victory =)

    We are Scotland...Unite!

  7. Marc, The book I read was Personality Plus. Since it has been a few years since I read this, it was a great opportunity to assess my personality type. After that, I felt it was important to argue the test results - no way could I be ranking higher in the Sanguine category! I'm mostly Phlegmatic & sticking to it. This book did help me develop a better perspective as I interacted with people (co-workers, family members). It is so easy to misjudge people and their behaviors. We hear so often not to judge - and then I forget about it. It became easier to serve others through the last month. I know I would not have been able to be as patient in my interactions. I believe it is much easier to serve others when you can understand where they are coming from. The last chapter of the book is exactly what is needed in this world. It gives us the "source of strength to achieve our potential". We have a cause to fight for - we need God's strength to achieve in the battle we face. We can be a force for good!

Thanks Marc! I totally love this business!

  8. The second book I read from the Top 5 is "Personality Plus". I love this book and this time I read the book differently. Each time I've read the book I read it to figure out if I actually am "choleric", ha ha. Also, to figure out the personality of my family. But this time, I read this book and noticed so many points on how to be a better wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend and business owner through seeing the personality traits of others. This time, my goal is to apply the principles, not just learn them. Thanks!!

  9. I had every intention of reading “The Magic of Thinking Big”…despite several attempts, I just couldn’t get into it for some reason. So I decided to read “Personality Plus”.

The information in this book has been so helpful for many years! It was nice to revisit the STRENGTHS each personality has. And to be reminded about the importance of understanding others, allowing the strengths of my personality to shine, while bringing under control the weaknesses.

Reading this book coincided so nicely with Marc and Kristine’s newest System CD, “Making the Great Connection.” It is amazing to watch the connection we can make with a person when we understand their personality and sincerely affirm them about an observable “strength” in their personality!

It is so true that people don’t care how much we know until they know how much we care. Authentically knowing and APPRECIATING a person’s personality strengths is a big step to connecting with them as a friend!

Thank you Marc and Kristine for this 5 in 5 Challenge! Reading the Top 5 books again is such a blessing!! And so needful if we are to become loving, servant leaders!!!

  10. Marc,

I just reread How I Raised Myself From Failure to Success by Frank Bettger. I was suggested this by Orrin as he says whenever he get's stuck or isn't getting the results he wants as fast as he wants he reviews this book.

MY take away was the section on asking questions. Learn how to effective ask questions to learn about others and help then to make decisions to better reach what they want in life.

  11. I love this contest and I love seeing my teammates step up and push themselves to do more to improve themselves each month! The beauty of leadership development is that it builds upon itself over time, so when the committed developing leader re-reads any of these books next year, they will glean new insights and perspectives that will lead to further growth!

My nugget from Bettger is simple: Don't be afraid to fail. Your greatest asset is the number of strikeouts since your last hit. Making a difference in peoples lives, ironically, is just a statistical numbers game. If i just go out and connect with enough people each week, I will naturally find those who are truly looking for a brighter future. And once I find them, all past rejections seems to be magically erased from my memory! :)
